Asia Hargis-Jones: Creating Connections with Residents

When enjoying a career as part of a warm retirement community, it is important to know the residents. Serving as a Concierge at Waltonwood Lake Boone, Asia Hargis-Jones takes it a step further. While working above and beyond in providing a wonderful living environment for her residents each day, Asia believes it is important to build meaningful connections and relationships with those who make up the community. Since day one, she has appreciated Waltonwood’s treatment of their residents.

“I applied because I knew someone that worked here but I was so impressed by the level of care and quality of life of the residents, as well as the attention to detail the facility provided them,” Asia said.

Since joining the Concierge team, she has used her work as an opportunity to make a difference and make lasting impressions. Asia believes in bringing a “positive attitude” to work daily before initiating positive reactions with the residents to ensure she is “doing something meaningful”. The importance of Waltonwood’s family values is something she aims to incorporate in her work whenever she walks through the door.

“It’s important to treat the residents with dignity and respect as if they were your own family,” Asia said. “There are so many good moments that I can’t think of one specific time. But I love all the little moments. Having in-depth conversations with residents and learning their life stories, partaking in activities…any time I’m able to make someone’s day a little better.”

Despite admiring her career in helping others and creating memories, she also enjoys creating art and experiencing the outdoors. Asia spends her time outside of work taking in the fresh air or devoting time to her art through painting and photography. Being someone who loves the little moments in life, it only makes sense that she expresses her love of the little things life has to offer.

Being a Concierge, Asia is one of the first people that residents and their families interact with. This is where her socializing and conversational skills shine bright. As she continues to go the extra mile in her career with Singh, she hopes to earn a degree in physical therapy so that she can continue helping others for a living. It’s people like Asia that help Waltonwood be the exceptional community that it is.
